In order to compete with private schools, the Karnataka government will open its own model 'Karnataka Public School' in each of the 760 hoblis of the state, announced Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait.

Speaking to reporters at Kalaburgi on Wednesday, Sait said that it was the government's objective to provide integrated education from the primary level to the pre-university level to rural students 'under the same roof'.

"Allocation for this will be made in the next budget," he added.

To guard  against leakage of SSLC and PUC examination question papers, the 'Karnataka Secure Examination System' (KSES) law had been tabled and discussed in both sessions of the Legislature.

"We will bring the law into force soon," Sait assured.

He guaranteed that all measures had been adopted to make exams secure, check copying and other malpractice.

Education department's higher officers have been asked to make the results better.

The minister informed that 36,000 schools in the state were in ruins.

"They have to be demolished and new buildings have to be constructed.

About 31,000 schools have to be renovated and 19,000 new classrooms need to be reconstructed.

The government has set aside Rs 566 crore for all this," Sait said.

Sait also shared that there were 10,000 vacant teacher appointments in the state's schools and a temporary list of selected candidates would be put out before January 15, 2018.

"Transfers are being done through counselling at the local level. We are also trying to locate and bring the drop-outs back to school," the minister averred.

'Shikshana Kirana' a new programme has been initiated to measure the performance of students in schools, the minister said.
