PM for urgent action against Naxalites

He reiterated that Naxalism was the gravest internal security threat faced by the nation. “Recent events have underscored the need for urgent and concerted action to root out this problem,” said the Prime Minister.

“No quarter can be given to those who have taken upon themselves to challenge the authority of the Indian state and the fabric of our democratic polity,” he said while inaugurating the Civil Services Day function.

The Prime Minister was speaking close on the heels of the Maoist attack in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh on April 6 in which 75 CRPF men lost their lives and another incident of Naxal firing in the state on Tuesday . 

Manmohan Singh also stressed the need for development of the backward regions which he said was the breeding ground for the left-wing extremism. The Prime Minister asked the civil servants to ensure that no area of the country is denied the benefits of the government’s developmental programmes.
