An inter-faith love marriage has turned into a controversy, with the Muslim man filing a habeas corpus petition in the court seeking to trace his Hindu wife. The couple had married seven months ago.

Reshma of Kasargod and Iqbal Choudary of Mumbai came into contact through Facebok and the acquaintance blossomed into a love affair. They had a court marriage and were staying in Mumbai.

Reshma's father, Ashok, had lodged a missing complaint with Mangaluru East police. The girl was found to be residing with Choudary in Mumbai. Reshma, a major, claimed that she was living with Choudary on her own.

VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders had termed the marriage "Love Jihad" and had demanded a probe by the NIA.

After a few days, Reshma's father lodged one more   complaint alleging that his daughter had stolen a laptop and jewellery before leaving the house. Accordingly, a notice was served on Reshma. However, Reshma denied the accusation, a police officer told DH.

Choudary has claimed that Reshma's parents tried to persuade her to return to her house, thrice. Recently, her family members took her from a mall in Mumbai. Alleging that his wife has been kidnapped, Choudary has filed a complaint with the Mumbai police. The court has now asked the police to trace Reshma and produce her before it.
