Even though the Cauvery hobli has all the eligibility to be formed into a new taluk, it is not realised due to lack of will power among elected representatives of the district, said MLC Veena Acchaiah.

She spoke to reporters visiting the spot where the agitators are conducting the hunger strike on Wednesday.

"Had the MLAs from BJP worked towards it when the BJP was in power in the state, the taluk formation could have been possible by now", she said. The MLC, meanwhile, alleged that the BJP leaders in the district lacked commitment for the formation of the taluks.

'Urge CM'

She also spoke to the fight committee president V P Shashidhar and members Rajashekhar and Mustaf. All elected representatives from the district should urge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his visit to Madikeri on January 9, to announce Cauvery and Ponnampet hoblis as taluks, she said.

She also requested the agitators to drop their hunger strike.

Zilla Panchayat member K P Chandrakala, Suneetha Manjunath, leaders Abdul Khader, Narayan, Kumarappa, Joseph Victor Soans, Pramod Muttappa, M Krishna and K S Mahesh were present.
