Under the tie-up programme with plumbing fitments and sanitary technology leader Jaquar and Co Pvt Ltd, the "Sani-tech Course for Ladies" was inaugurated ay St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute.

Students will be trained in plumbing fitments, service and maintenance. The course is a revolutionary step, as plumbing is dominated by males. As there is a huge demand for trained persons in this field, an opportunity for girls could very well be termed as a step towards women's empowerment and gender equality.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev Fr Eric Mathias said, "We would like more and more women to take up this course and become self reliant. It would be true revolution in the field dominated by men."

Rev Dr Leo D'Souza said, "People in general have a false notion that plumbing means work related to toilets, considered one of the dirtiest place in the house. In fact, the course deals with sanitary and pipe fittings in the entire house or the complex. Moreover, toilets in modern houses are more hygienic and the cleanest place. The beauty of the house is judged by the cleanliness and aesthetics of the toilet. Plumbing technicians are persons who are highly paid across the globe and it is an excellent trade for entrepreneurship."
