Last Updated 09 January 2018, 18:45 IST

The University of Mysore (UoM) has cancelled the contracts for the provision of food to students in its hostels and has vested the responsibility to the wardens to hire cooks and assistants to prepare the food.

Earlier, the UoM had the responsibility of providing the food to the students in hostels.

However, when M Madaiah was the VC, the contract system was introduced. Since then, protests by students complaining about the poor quality food provided by contractors had become frequent. Recently, the students staged a protest even in front of the house of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and had submitted a memorandum in this regard.

The wardens have been directed to buy provisions from the Janata Bazaar and vegetables from Hopcoms. Registrar D Bharathi inspected the kitchens to ensure the quality of food.
