A 55-year-old realtor committed suicide, minutes after dialling 100 - the police helpline number.  He told the police that he was going to end his life.

The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh Kumar, a resident of Annapurneshwari Nagar off Kanakapura Road.

According to the police, Kumar called the helpline at 10.30 am on Wednesday. He said he was being harassed by a financier over Rs 2 lakh loan that he had taken for his daughter's wedding and was going to end his life, and  hung up.

The officials at the control room  tried to call back, but his mobile phone was switched off. All efforts were made to trace Kumar's location. The  officials tracked down the location and informed the Konanakunte police, who reached  Kumar's house in 30 minutes. But when they got there, they found him hanging from the ceiling.

Kumar was alone at home. His wife, Radhamma, son and younger daughter were away.
