A teenager mowed down and killed a 53-year-old security while riding a scooter under the influence of alcohol in Ulsoor near the Gurudwara on Saturday night.

Vijay (19) was riding the scooter with his friend Hari Kiran (18) seated in the pillion. Both were residents of MV Garden in Ulsoor and are students in a private college. At around 11.15 pm, the scooter ploughed into Bahadur Chhetri, a security in a Commercial Street shopping mall, from behind as he was walking.

The bike then lost control and crashed into the median. Kiran was thrown off the bike on impact. Chhetri, who hails from Assam, was killed on the spot. He was heading home after work.

Pedestrians caught the teenagers and handed them to the police, who took them to Bowring hospital to treat their injuries. Doctor's test confirmed that Vijay and Kiran were under the influence. They were shifted to NIMHANS as they had sustained head injuries.

Preliminary inquiry by Ulsoor traffic police revealed that Kiran had brought his uncle Raju's bike to go for a party. Vijay took over the scooter and was riding it without license. The two were also without their helmets at the time of the accident.

Police arrested Raju under the IMV Act and said they would arrest Vijay once he was out of hospital.
