Denied for shopping, woman kills self

Alleged refusal of the husband to take her for shopping citing preoccupation angered a woman so much that she committed suicide.

The tragic incident occurred at Vrindavan Colony area in the state capital on Sunday.

According to the police sources here, the woman, identified as Deepika Dwivedi, had been insisting on her husband, a government servant, to take her to shopping as her cousin's wedding was nearing.

The hubby, who had been stalling her demand for quite some time, finally relented and had promised to take Deepika for shopping on Saturday.

He, however, failed to keep his promise owing to his preoccupation in the office and returned home late on Saturday, the police said.

Deepika and her hubby had a heated exchange in the night after which the former locked herself in her room.

On Sunday morning, the hubby tried to call Deepika after her room remained locked but he did not get any answer. When the door was broken, Deepika was found hanging from the ceiling fan, the police said.

''Though she was angry I never imagined that she would take such an extreme step,'' the hubby said.

Police officials said that it appeared to be a case of suicide. ''The husband and wife often fought over outing...there is no foul play,'' said a senior police official.

The official said that no complaint was lodged by the woman's parents in this regard.
