M Night Shyamalan's 'The Last Airbender' to be made in 3D

The 39-year-old director has been pushing for the film to be converted to 3D for sometime and has been testing the effect on his footage for months.

After recent tests he has convinced bosses at Paramount studio to move forward with a change which should add USD 5-10 million to the film's budget before it releases on July 2, HitFix.com reported.

It seems the success of James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster 'Avatar' is encouraging more and more filmmakers taking the 3D route.
Tim Burton made 'Alice In Wonderland' using the technique, while George Lucas is all set to revive 'Star Wars' films in 3D. Another film to get a 3D makeover is 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows'.
Shyamalan, shot to fame after he wrote and directed 'The Sixth Sense' in 1999. His last few films including 'The Happening' have been panned by the critics.
