Last Updated 19 January 2018, 17:23 IST

Rajya Raitha Sangha has urged the forest department officials to plant fruit-bearing trees inside the forest.

In a memorandum submitted to the conservator of forest, Lingaraju, the farmer leaders said that teak and eucalyptus trees are planted in the forest. The eucalyptus trees are responsible for depleting water level inside the forest. Mango, jackfruit, bamboo and other fruit-bearing plants and trees should be planted, they said.

Wild elephants who enter villages in search of food engage in destruction. The elephants camping in the villages should be sent back to the forest. The forest department should initiate measures to check the elephant menace by laying solar fence. More watchers should be recruited to safeguard the forest, said the farmers.

The farmers also urged the department to distribute compensation for the loss of crops due to wild animals menace.
