Police 'shame' man who helped them nab drunken mob

Last Updated 20 January 2018, 19:32 IST

A man, who helped the police catch a gang of drunken men that had  assaulted three people during New Year's Eve revelry, has alleged humiliation and  mental torture by the law-enforcement force.

L Ramachandra (29), of Motappana Palya, said the  Indiranagar police inspector, Ravi, was angry at him for sharing the CCTV footage of the incident with the media before sending it to  him. The inspector made him stand alongside the six suspects and  sent the photograph to the media. He even threatened to open  his history sheet, Ramachandra said.

On January 16, Ravi asked him to get the DVR of the footage that shows the gang beating up  two men and  a woman, all from Darjeeling, West Bengal. Ramachandra went to the police station in the evening, believing his work will be commended. But the inspector not only "abused" him but also made him look like a criminal, he added.

Ramachandra has now filed a complaint with the police complaints authority.

The  inspector was not available for comment.
