Flower show set to bloom at Kadri Park from tomorrow

The annual flower, fruits and vegetable show will be held at Kadri Park here from January 26 to January 29.

Informing the same to reporters here on Wednesday, ZP CEO Dr M R Ravi said that the show, to be jointly organised by the horticulture department, DK ZP and Siri, will be inaugurated by District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai at 10 am on January 26.
The highlight of this year's flower show is the 'Mangaluru Clock Tower' which would be recreated with the help of 150 kgs of carnation and roses measuring 14 feet height and 5 feet wide. The clock tower will be inaugurated by Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader while MLA J R Lobo will preside over the inaugural programme.

It may be recalled that the clock tower, the landmark of Mangaluru, was demolished for road widening in 1999. Besides the clock tower, the flower show would exhibit various types of flowers including topiary, bonsai, anthuriums and orchids among other rare flowers and plants.

Stating that there will be a demo on hand gardening and terrace gardening, there will be about 70 stalls displaying as well as selling flower seeds, organic and horticulture products. There will be separate stalls on providing information on apiculture and value added products of the same.

Contests

As part of the exhibition, a vegetable carving, flower arrangement and flower rangoli contest has been organised at 10 am on January 26, Ravi informed and added that spot entries will also be accepted.

Also, five selected men and women from farming community will be felicitated on the occasion. In addition, about 12 teams would perform cultural programmes at the venue everyday between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm. A food fest with coastal delicacies on offer will be an added attraction.

Tickets

While tickets have been priced at Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children, school students, physically handicapped and differently abled children will be allowed entry free of cost.

Prizes

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil will distribute prizes during the valedictory which will be held on January 29 at 6.30 pm. Horticulture Department Deputy Director H R Naik and Siri Horticulture Association Vice President Dr Bharathi Nirmal among others were present.
