Leopard cub trapped

Last Updated 25 January 2018, 19:20 IST

A leopard fell into a trap laid by the Forest department personnel at Yaraganahalli in the taluk on Thursday.

Speaking to DH, Range Forest Officer Shashidar said that the leopard is around one and a half year old and arrangements have been made to release it into the Forest in either Bandipur or Nagarahole.

Responding to the complaints of the residents of Yaraganahalli and surrounding villages that leopards are being spotted frequently, straying from Huliyurdurga and Channapatna forests, the department personnel had placed the cage recently and a leopard was trapped on Thursday.

As it is suspected that two or three leopards are on the prowl in the region, the department will place the cage for a few more days to trap the remaining wild cats, he said.
