Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman M R Venkatesh on Wednesday said that it is mandatory to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the toilets being constructed at the satellite towns as part of the Mahamastakabhisheka.

Addressing the officials of various departments, after inspecting the toilet facilities and measures taken to maintain cleanliness in the satellite towns, he pointed out that the toilets at Tyagi Nagar lacked hygiene.

He directed the officials not to compromise on hygiene. "The civic workers should be paid a minimum wage of Rs 14,500 per month. The Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Mahamastakabhisheka Special Officer should ensure that the contractors strictly follow the guidelines," he said.

Venkatesh stressed that the authorities should immediately distribute safety gears like masks and gloves to the civic workers and make it compulsory for them to use them while on duty. Whatever the rituals and practices, the disorder is not acceptable, he said.
