Three days after the brutal lynching of a dalit student by a group of people following an argument at a restaurant, two dalit brothers were allegedly lynched in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district, about 200 km from here, over a land dispute.

The incident occurred at Baghaura Khawasan village on Tuesday, according to police sources here.

Sources said that the brothers, identified as Rakesh Sonker and Dashrath Sonker, were hit repeatedly with an axe, sticks and rods during a violent clash between two groups over a land dispute.

The victims died on the spot, sources said, adding that around half a dozen people were injured in the clash. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary.

Senior police officials reached the village with security reinforcement to maintain peace in the village. The situation was stated to be tense. No arrests have so far been made, the sources said.

The officials said that the clash was between two groups of the same community.

Meanwhile, three people have been arrested in connection with the arrest of Dileep Kumar Saroj, a student of law at Allahabad University, by four people outside a restaurant three days ago. The main accused, however, continued to be at large.

The Opposition parties attacked the Yogi Adityanath government for the killings and accused it of failing to ensure safety of dalits in the state.
