The expedition was flagged off by Governor H R Bhardwaj at the Raj Bhavan on Sunday here, by handing over the National Tricolour and expedition flag to participants. He later stressed that such expeditions will inculcate patriotism amongst the youth.

Deepak Solanki, from the Society for Trekking and Environmental Preservation (STEP) which has organised the event said, “The kids have been drawn from various ‘Balamandira’ or juvenile homes from across Dharwad, Gadag, Bangalore, Pune and Periyar.”

They will leave for New Delhi by train and travel to Wagah border and Amritsar from Delhi. They will finally trek to the summit destination, the Kuari Pass, in the Himalayan ranges on May 9.

The participants will come back to the City on May 14.  The International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports is also associated with the STEP to organise the expedition.
