The Urban Development Department on Friday filed an affidavit in the High Court of Karnataka stating that the entire exercise with regard to delimitation of wards to 18 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will be completed by March 31 and an appropriate notification will be issued.

A division bench comprising Justices H G Ramesh and B M Shyam Prasad was hearing a petition filed by the State Election Commission, which has moved court over the delay from the state government in providing reservation and delimitation lists to the Commission for conducting urban local body elections.

The affidavit also stated that ward wise reservation for 215 ULBs will be finalised by April 30 and an appropriate notification will be issued. The 215 ULBs comprise of 10 municipal corporations, 57 municipal councils, 97 town municipal councils and 51 town panchayats.

The court had earlier directed the government to file an affidavit stating the necessary action to be taken with regard to issue of final notifications for delimitation list and reservation list, while hearing a matter regarding ULB elections.

The matter was adjourned to April 2.
