Last Updated 21 February 2018, 16:18 IST

Demanding basic facilities for residents at Devarapura paisari hamlet in Hebbale village, a dharna will be staged under the leadership of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti at Gandhi Maidan on February 23.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday,   Samiti convenor Parashuram said that political parties see the people of tribal hamlets as vote banks. The residents are deprived of basic facilities.

Prior to the staging of the dharna, a protest rally will be taken out from Sudarshana circle to the protest venue. Progressive thinkers and members of various organisations will take part, he said. The deputy commissioner should come to the venue and receive the memorandum, added Parashuram.

Around 150 families are dwelling in Devarapura paisari hamlet and the people have been dependent on agricultural labour for their livelihood. The government has not taken care to provide them with electricity, road, toilets and water supply.

DSS zonal convener H S Krishnappa, district organizing convener V R Rajanikant, leaders B j Subramani, H N Kumar and Unnikrishna were present.
