Palemar promises Rs 25 lakh for Abbakka Festival

Addressing at the ‘Bisu Madipu’, the valedictory programme of the ‘Bisu Minadana’ festival, organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at the Town Hall here on Monday, Palemar said that he had discussed the demand of Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava Samiti with the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

“Though the committee had demanded Rs 1 crore for the festival, the government has agreed to release Rs 25 lakh,” he said adding that initiative will be taken to release the fund soon.  

Talking about the functioning of Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, Palemar said that the government’s aim is to rejuvenate all Academies, including Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and  Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy. Unlike previous governments, the BJP government is pledged to make all Academies active so that language, culture, folk arts and our heritage should be preserved for ever, he added.

Further, he called upon the Academy members, Tulu litterateurs, experts and all language lovers to strive to enliven the Tuluva culture and heritage. The exclusive folk arts of Tulunadu should be preserved, he added.  Senior Litterateur Erya Lakshminarayana Alva presided. Sri Gokarnanatha Co-operative Bank President A Shivananda Karkera, Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava Samiti Executive President Dinakara Ullal, Academy Registrar B Chandrahasa Rai, Members Bhaskara Rai and Dayananda Kathalsar were present.
