II PU exams off to smooth start

The second PU examinations had a smooth start on Thursday with students finding both Physics and Economics papers easy.

Namya Alva, who wrote her examination in government PU college for boys in Malleswaram, said the Physics paper was easy and they had ample time to answer. Another student Nandini said "The numerical problems were quite tough. They were not out of syllabus but were more complicated than what we had solved before."

Physics faculty at BASE, Prof Dasharathi who analysed the question paper, said questions were unambiguous and within the syllabus.  

An Economics student, Shanthraj was delighted with the question paper. "I had practised the question papers of the past three years. A majority of the questions were similar. So I am very happy," he said.

Manohar Reddy, a parent, said, "The first day was very smooth. The teachers ensured there was no rush by asking students to form queues. They made announcements and hence there was no confusion." A poster on security measures implemented for the conduct of exams was put up outside all centres.

"The examination began today peacefully. Vehicles delivering question papers were monitored and they reached centres on time," said C Shikha, director of the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE).

There was a complaint of lack of space in a college in Athani, Belagavi district. "The report came in at around 11.30 am. The deputy director went there immediately and resolved the issue," Shikha said.  

LATECOMERS NOT ALLOWED
About 10 students who reached their exam centre in Goodwill Girls High School in Pulakeshinagar were not allowed to write the exam.

"These students came to the exam centre at 10.55 am.  We have made it clear that students should be in the exam hall by 10.15 am when we give the question paper. The exam starts at 10.30 am and we allow students to enter only up to 10.45am," Shikha said. The students may write the supplementary examination which will be conducted after the results are announced, she said. Shikha reiterated that students should ensure they are at the exam centre between 10 am  and 10.15 am to avoid such instances. Two students in Kalaburagi who wrote the Economics paper were debarred for malpractice.
