Accusing an MLA of not keeping his promise of getting her son a gramsevak job, a woman consumed poison in front of the former's house and committed suicide, in Badami town, Bagalkot district.
Police said that the deceased Shantavva Valikara (46) of Yeragoppa village lost her husband Govindappa, who was a gramsevak at the nearby Muttalageri panchayat, two years ago.
Then, Shantavva had submitted a request to Badami MLA B B Chimmanikatti to get her son her husband's government job, on a sympathy basis; and this had not happened.
Police added that accusing the MLA of failing to do as promised, Shantavva consumed poison in front of his house in Badami and committed suicide.
The people of the village staged a dharna in front of Chimmanakatti's house also.
