'Sajibu Cheiraoba', a traditional festival of Manipur, was celebrated recently with religious zeal by Manipuri students of Alva's Education Foundation to mark the beginning of a New Year.

Being a special invitee to the celebration, Manipur Education minister and retired IPS officer Thokchom Radheshyam said, "Manipur is an isolated land from the mainland yet it bears a rich heritage and culture. The education system there didn't evolve much as compared to other parts of the country.

He called upon Manipuris to return to their native land and bring a new ray of hope in the system.

Presiding over the programme, Alva's Education foundation trustee Vivek Alva said that Alva's Education Foundation has been striving towards integration between Northeast and Karnataka in the real sense. "We started with a couple of students and today we have a larger avenue of northeastern pupils carving their skills in different streams."

The Sajibu Cheiraoba festival is a celebration of New Year in Manipur.

This is a sacred festival of Manipur when all the people welcome New Year grandly. The formal function was followed by cultural shows like 'Dhol Cholom,' stick dance and group songs. Manipuri students also performed 'Dollu Kunitha' on the occasion.

A Manipuri meal comprising utthi, chicken curry, champhut, kanghou, fish curry, eromba, and singju was prepared by students. After meals, the students offered prayers at a nearby hill.

RSS Manipur Prantya Koshadhyaksh Gorakchandra Sharma and Poorvanchal Vikas Parishad coordinator Puspharaj were present.
