Rain lashes several NK districts

Rain continued to lash several parts of north Karnataka for the third day on Saturday.

Raibag, Hukkeri and Nippani towns and surroundings in Belgavi district received mild showers towards evening. The sky remained overcast in these towns since noon. Rain coupled with gutsy winds lashed Raibag for about 20 minutes. Overcast condition prevailed in Gokak, but there were no reports of rain.

A person was struck dead by lighting at Chikkop village in Ramdurg taluk. The deceased has been identified as Lachappa Nagappa Kalsad (62). He was grazing sheep when lightning struck him.

Heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed Haumasagara and Hanumanala in Koppa taluk in the early morning hours. The showers, which began at 4 am lasted till 9. The rain brought huge relief for the residents reeling under sweltering heat. Several villages in Kushtagi taluk too received rain in the morning.

Thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds, on Friday night wreaked havoc in parts of Yadgir district.

Ox belonging to Hanumanthappa of Konahalli in Vadagera taluk was struck dead by the lightning.

Hanumanthappa's daughter Devamma (18) and his sister Deviramma (45) have suffered burns in the incident, Tahsildar Mallesh Tanga told DH.

Thundershowers have brought tears to the farmers as paddy grown on the vast tract of land at several villages in Yadgir, Shahpur, Surpur and Gurmitkal taluks has been damaged.

According to Tahsildar Tanga, the district has received a total of 32.9 mm rain with Surpur taluk alone recorded 17.7 mm.
