As part of the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MP Shobha Karandlaje staged a day-long hunger strike, against the Congress for being responsible for the washout of parliamentary sessions.

Speaking on the occasion, she alleged that Congress is the most irresponsible Opposition which has been creating chaos for unnecessary reasons. She said that the Prime Minister is fasting for a day and all BJP parliamentarians across the country have taken up the hunger strike in support of the Prime Minister. She alleged that the Congress is responsible for demoralising the sanctity of the Parliament, which is the sacred holy place for democracy. She said the fast is being taken up to create awareness among the public over the "lackadaisical attitude" of the Congress and its "irresponsibility". Congress should have realised that solutions are only possible through discussions.

She told reporters that dissidents in the party during the time of elections is not uncommon. She said that the first list of candidates is already out and the second list will be out shortly. Referring to the dissidence in Kundapur, as few others were not happy with the selection of Haladi, she said that the party high command has taken the decision and others should abide by the decision taken at the helm of affairs.

She said there is no say for any individual about the selection of candidates. The target before BJP is to ensure the victory of the party in the state and ensure that Yeddyurappa becomes the chief minister. With regard to the candidature of Raghupathi Bhat for the Udupi Assembly constituency, the MP said that the party high command would announce the list shortly. She said that each individual leader was asked about their respective opinion. The dissidents should also make up their minds and sacrifice for the welfare of the party, she said.
