She was addressing a gathering here on Saturday after inaugurating Kala Sangam, an exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts organised by SSK Mahila Sangha. “Women force was the biggest force to ensure social development. Women made their presence felt at various periods in our history,” she said and added at present, education and employment opportunities were required for women to contribute significantly to social welfare. Men should support women in their endeavours, she stated.

“Some vested interests are trying to convert children into terrorists and anti-social elements. Hence, women should be more responsible inside and outside their houses to prevent the trend,” Karandlaje advised.

Former minister Leeladevi R Prasad said women donned different roles such as teachers, preservers of culture and  mothers. “Hence, a woman could be compared to a government which carried out different activities simultaneously,” she added.

She assured women’s organisations of working hard to ensure supply of raw materials to manufacture various products and provide required training to enhance their skills and good marketing facilities to sell the products.

Industrialist Srihari L Khoday stressed the importance of organising such events frequently to make women economically independent. Senior actor Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Rajalakshmi Khoday, Ramachandra Khoday, SSK Samaj President D T Shankar, SSK community senior leaders Narayan Dhondoosa and Subba Rao Dhondoosa were present. A few women of the SSK Mahila Sangh, who excelled in different areas, were honoured.
