RCom planning new smart phone strategy

It is expected to offer Android bundled handsets within the next three months and planning an alliance with Nokia for its Nokia Messaging Service (NMS) which will enable RCom to create and own the mobile email opportunity across its entire bandwidth of over 100 million subscribers.

It will also provide RCom an opportunity to offer innovative data plans for ring fencing the existing corporate users, broad base its overall data offerings to SMEs and consumer email market as well as leverage Nokia’s Level 2 and Level 3 customer care support.

RCom is in advanced stages of finalising the pricing of the NMS service it plans to offer on its network, sources said. The service will be offered on over 25 Nokia smartphones.
There is a possibility that RCom may offer free data service bundled with the top-selling smartphones in India like Nokia, Samsung, LG smartphones as well as Blackberry devices.

With Nokia, RCom will offer 200 MB free data usage per month for a period of 6 months for customers using Nokia Smartphones. With Samsung, RCOM will bundle its Omnia Series to offer 5GB free Data usage per month for a period of 6 months. RCom is also looking at introducing an entire bouquet of Android handsets across both GSM and CDMA network. RCom is in talks with Samsung, LG & Motorola to procure nearly 300,000 Android handsets valued at Rs 500 crore.
