Speaking to reporters on allegations against former Minister Hartal Halappa, he said that the issue related to Halappa will not affect the Gram Panchayat election results. “The Government acted immediately to take people into confidence about the party’s transparency. Government has shown its moral responsibility by handing over the case to CID without bothering pressures,” he added.

“The Government will never interfere in the investigation related to Halappa’s case. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Home Minister V S Acharya have already asserted that all are equal before law,” Gowda said.

Coffee package

A delegation including MPs and other people’s representatives will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma to explain the woes of coffee growers in the region. The delegation will demand the government to extend coffee package benefits to medium and large scale growers too. It is an injustice to the entire coffee industry that the central government has released only Rs 362 crore for the coffee package, where only small growers will be benefited, Gowda said. As medium and large scale coffee growers too are facing difficulties, the package should have extended to them also. The issue will be brought to the notice of Prime Minister, he said adding that the government will also be requested to stop proceedings related to bank loan recovery against coffee growers.

Though the election to Gram Panchayats is being conducted apolitically, workers of all political parties have filed their nominations. All BJP supported candidates will bag the seats in the election, Gowda said.

Talking about the development of naxal infested areas, Gowda said that government is committed to provide basic facilities in naxal infested areas. The Centre has announced special package for such areas. State government will also sanction special funds for the development naxal infested areas, he assured.

BJP District Secretary Premkumar, Town Committee President Narayana Gowda and District Spokesperson B Rajappa were present.
