Crawford is the latest in the line of high-profile athletes to grace the event, following in the footsteps of Paul Tergat (2008) and Maurice Greene (2009). Crawford will be in Bangalore in the days leading up to the May 23 event, meeting and interacting with the participants, the media as well as the sponsors and partners of the event, according to the organisers.
The American, who scorched the Athens Olympic stadium track in 19.79 seconds to win the 200M gold, is however best remembered for his terrific act of sportsmanship four years later.
He originally finished fourth in the 200M final at the Beijing Olympic Games but was later promoted to silver position after countryman Wallace Spearmon and Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles were both disqualified for lane infringements. Crawford later presented his medal to Martina, saying the latter deserved it more.
“It's an honour to be invited as event ambassador for the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore,” Crawford said.
