Halappa, who was brought to Bangalore in an ambulance with police escort, was admitted in a special ward located on the second floor of ‘master plan building’ of the hospital.

He is in judicial custody following the arrest by the CID police. He is facing rape charges.
Immediately on his arrival after a seven hour drive from Shimoga, six specialist doctors - Head of Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic, Neurology, Anesthesia and ENT - were appointed to treat the former minister.

Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital Dr B G Tilak said Halappa had wheezing when he arrived at the hospital. “Today we have asked him to rest. However, tomorrow he will have to stay on an empty stomach as we will be conducting tests on him,” he said.

Earlier, high drama was witnessed as the ambulance with Halappa entered the Victoria Hospital premises.

Hours before Halappa’s arrival, mediapersons had gathered at the hospital entrance and so had Halappa’s supporters.

As soon as the ambulance stopped at the entrance of the hospital at 2.15 pm, Halappa’s supporters surrounded him, blocking the view of the photographers.

An unshaven Halappa looked physically weak and on IV fluids was made to walk from the ambulance to his ward.

Scuffle at the entrance

In a scuffle between mediapersons and Halappa’s supporters, the entrance glass door shattered into pieces, injuring a photographer in his eye and hand.  Halappa was quickly shifted to the second floor special ward.

A few members of the media protested against the policemen and questioned Chamarajpet Sub-division ACP Ismail Sharief about how they could let ‘goondas’ inside when the minister is in custody and not allow mediapersons to do their job.
