Harassed for dowry, woman ends life

The victim Savitha (22), a resident of Marutinagar was married to Jai Kumar (25), a cab driver two years ago. The couple have a one-year-old daughter. Jai Kumar used to harass Savitha to bring more dowry and they frequently quarrelled, police said. On Saturday afternoon after a quarrel Jai Kumar threatened to part ways with her and went to a nearby shop. When he returned after sometime, he found his wife hanging from a ceiling fan, police said.

Savitha was rushed her to a nearby hospital and was later admitted to Victoria Hospital, but she failed to respond to the treatment and died early Sunday morning, police added. The police arrested Jai Kumar and his mother Lalithamma.

Auto driver held

The Banaswadi police arrested an auto driver who had caused injuries to a traffic policeman on duty in an accident recently. The suspect was identified as Naveen (23) from Doddanekkundi.

Naveen, who was driving his auto in an inebriated condition failed to stop his vehicle  when Mahesh P Kanakagiri and Shivananda, both on duty at Kalyan Nagar junction on May 21 evening, directed him to do so. He drove past Shivananda when Shivananda waved his hand indicating him to stop the autorickshaw. Shivananda fractured his right hand when the front portion of the autorickshaw hit him. The police traced Naveen by the registration number of the auto, police said.

House burgled

Thieves gained entry into a house by breaking open the back door of a house in Subramanyapura and fled with ornaments worth Rs 85,000 on Saturday. Chaitra Sridhar of third main, 7th cross, PP Layout, locked the house and had gone out. On her return late in the night, she found the house burgled, police said.

Female trio rob a man

Three suspected sex workers robbed a man of his gold chain worth Rs 60,000 in Upparpet police limits on Saturday night. P Babu of Chennai, who was staying in a lodge in the Majestic area was on his way to have dinner around 11.05 pm, when three women accosted him and snatched his chain. As the three tried to flee, Babu managed to catch hold of one of them with the help of a few people. She told the police that her name was Pallavi and that she and the other two were sex workers.
