Rs 4 cr paid as interim compensation

Air India counselling in Mlore; 35 claimants asked to furnish necessary documents

Briefing mediapersons here on Saturday, Air India General Manager (Quality Management Systems) Harpreet A DE Singh said that advocates Mulla & Mulla and Craigie Blunt & Caroe led by H D Nanavati verified the documents of all claimants and settled the interim compensation to those who had produced all necessary papers immediately. Meanwhile, 35 claimants were asked to come back with all necessary documents, she added.
“We did not wait for the insurance amount from the Reliance Insurance Limited. We made the process of distribution of interim compensation fast, as our main objective was to console and help the kin of those victims. Kin of all victims and those who are injured will get all insurance dues in time,” she added.

Glusica’s funeral
Singh said that the funeral of the Capt Zlatko Glusica was held at Belgrade in Serbia on May 27. “Air India deputed two senior pilots to escort the body of Glusica all the way to Belgrade. Those pilots helped the family of Glusica till the funeral,” she added.
While the last rites of co-pilot H S Ahluwalia and three other crew members were performed, the body of one crew member is yet to be identified, Harpreet said.
Co-ordination centres were opened in Dubai, where the ill-fated flight took off, Calicut in Kerala and in Mangalore.

Singh said that the Kenyon team will arrive in Mangalore soon to segregate, cleanse, disinfect and catalogue the baggage of passengers. Most of the baggage are destroyed in the mishap. However, remaining baggage will be handed over to the relatives of victims and survivors, she added.
Air India will organise a prayer meet to pay homage to the departed souls in Mangalore on June 22, Singh said and added that Air India has plans to hand over all baggage on the same day.

Counselling camps
She said that Art of Living members and city-based Roshni Nilaya will hold counselling camps for the relatives of victims, survivors, villagers and Air India crew members, who were traumatised by the accident.
