<p>Police sources said the investigators have given a "clean chit" to the foreigners late Wednesday night and they have flown back to Italy early Thursday morning.<br /><br />The move comes a week after three Italians -- Giulio Ponetto, Giovanni Ceccomello and Donato D'Angello -- "joined the investigations" in connection with the recovery of the ammunition on May 24 from a room in Hotel Raddison in the city where they had stayed.<br />"We could not link them to the recovery. We could not make any case against them. They have been denying their involvement and we were not able to find any evidence contrary to their claim," a senior police official said.<br /><br />Police had earlier sought a report from Italy about the antecedents of their citizens, who were brought here from Maharashtra on Friday last.With the investigations in the case meeting a dead end, the official said, they were planning to question the occupants of the room who stayed there before the three Italians checked in.The official, however, expressed doubt over this exercise saying if the occupants were foreigners, then it would be difficult for the city police to bring the case to a logical conclusion.The Italians, who claimed to be working with a petrochemical company, had checked into three rooms in Hotel Radisson on May 24 and left after seven hours, according to Delhi Police.A case was registered under the Arms Act in this regard.</p>
