With a new batch of first PUC students coming in, the already colourful Jyoti Nivas College is even more abuzz with excitement. Some of the students this reporter interacted with, were so energetic, that they wanted to be the first ones to speak about the JNC PU College.

Said Shazia Sheikh, a student of Statistic, Economics, Business and Accountancy (SEBA), “It was great to see many girls like me. They must have felt the same way  as I felt. Seeing a class of 80 students, I just couldn’t suppress my feelings. I made many new friends and am looking forward to participating in various competitions.”

The lush green campus seemed to have impressed many. “I have checked out every part of the college. It’s nice and spacious and the canteen serves really good food,” said Sushmita P Nayak, a student of History, Economics, Sociology and Psychology (HESP). “I fell in love with the name of the college itself. ‘Jyoti’ means light and ‘Nivas’ means home, so JNC is a place where light resides.” She added, “I was the only one from my school here so I was extremely nervous but once I got here, I found the people very friendly.”

Kavya, a student of SEBA, was thrilled to be a part of JNC. “Our seniors rock,” she said as she turned towards the second PUC students to give them a smile. “The teachers have also been great. And I have made lots of new friends, including a North Eastern and an African friend. I just love this college and am so proud to be a JNCite,” she gushed. “And I had delicious samosas in the canteen during the lunch break on the first day,” she was quick to add.

The first day of college was full of surprises for Sania, a student of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology (PCMB).  “I had gone to Ooty on a holiday and had come back here for my brother’s birthday. Suddenly, I was told about my orientation on June 7. I got goosebumps and was wondering what to wear as I didn’t have any luggage.” She smiled, “My entire family has studied in JNC and it feels like home here. I want to call this place ‘Jyoti Nivas Home’ and not Jyoti Nivas College.”

Effervescent and full of life, Tanushree, a student of SEBA hailing from Gulbarga, said, “I had come to this college a few times as my sister had studied here. I was a bit apprehensive on the first day wondering if I will be able to adjust. So I made it a point to talk to everyone,” she said. “The best thing about JNC is that it’s not just about studies. They encourage us to make friends as well. Even the teachers are very approachable.”

She laughed, “My mom was a bit worried about the food that I am going to be eating over here but the canteen food is amazing.”  Having studied in one school always, coming to JNC has been quite an experience for Swati, a PCMB student. “It’s exciting to be in an all new institution. There is a healthy interaction between seniors and juniors,” said the young girl. Being a dancer, she is hoping to be a part of the dance club.
