The first day at college began with an orientation programme. No long and boring speeches. It was designed to be short, crisp and to the point. The student union members pieced together a short 10-minute introductory presentation for the freshers.

Metrolife spoke to a few degree students and was amazed by the level of confidence. There was no fear, no anxiety and the two years of PUC had done them a lot of good in helping them shed their inhibitions. Most of the students were impressed with the credit courses that the college had to offer. Every student looked forward to being associated with the culturals at the college.

Leona D’Souza just completed her class 12 from Sophia Girls’ High School. She says she finds the atmosphere in Mount Carmel no different from that in her school, “it’s the same discipline. The college has a good mix of students from across the country. I am looking forward to enrolling in a few credit courses as well,” says Leona. Reshma Varghese also from Sophia says it’s the cultural activities in college that she’s thrilled about. “I’ve heard so much about the college and how warm and friendly the people are. Even though it’s a girls’ college, the atmosphere is warm. The teachers go a long way in making it conducive for students to pursue both extracurricular and academics,” she says.

Ashma Achu Thomas moved into the City only a few months from Kerala. She says she is excited about having joined Mounts. “It’s amazing. The seniors come across as friendly and I am sure the three years I’ll spend here will be worthwhile.”

Sidrah Safi, a first year PYES student did her pre university at Jyoti Nivas College. “I am a wee bit nervous about how I’d blend in but the atmosphere is cool. The faculty seems encouraging and I am looking forward to excelling at academics and enrolling in a lot of extracurricular activities,” she says. Tanya Singh, a first year PyEE student, who just moved into the City from Dehradun says she always wanted to study down South. “I’ve heard that the education system in Bangalore is good. I am totally new to this City and l liked whatever I’ve seen of the college. I am more excited than nervous,” she avers.     When Rayyan Nassor, a first year PES student and an East African relocated to Bangalore from her hometown she was told that there’s no better place to be than in Mount Carmel College, “So here I am. The campus is great and I am going to make the best of my three years here,” she signs off.
