Residents flay laying of road during Grama Sabha at Bastimutt

 The residents took up the grama sabha held at Bastimutt Government Primary School on Friday to express contempt over the road construction on bank of Heggerekere lake.

The villagers said that the road will create problem to the farmers who have been dependent on the lake for irrigation to their farms surrounding the lake. They said that though the works were stopped following fierce resistance from the local residents, the works were carried on clandestinely in the night and there is absolutely no information as to who has taken up the work. As the residents spoke in length to stop encroachment of land on the banks of the lake, it was discovered that Gram Panchayat had no idea about the project.

Department of Veterinary official Dr Jayakumar said that the beneficiaries under special programme and tribal welfare programme are entitled to get two buffaloes with subsidy. A sum of Rs 9,000 is being given to those having two mixed breed female cattle under special cattle breed development programme. He said that people rearing cattle must administer drops and medicines to the cattle stock against anthrax and various other diseases.
Forest officials asked the villagers to take permission from the department and cut off the branches of the trees which are in precarious manner and are likely to fall off during rainy season.

They further said that teak, silver, acacia saplings are being distributed free of cost from Department of Social Forestry to the villagers. The programme was presided over by Nagalapura Gram Panchayat President Raghavendra. Vice-President Vijay Kumar, Members K V Jayakar, Secretary Lokesh and others were present.
