The arrested is Umesh Achary, member of Kariyangala gram panchayat in Bantwal taluk. Police arrested him following a complaint lodged by the Bantwal Tahsildar. He has been remanded to judicial custody till July 13.
A press release from the Deputy Commissioner’s office stated that on Bantwal Tahsildar seized sand illegally stored by Acharya to transport it to Kerala on June 21. Two loads of sand were already transported in lorries owned by Achary on June 25.
The DC has warned that all the illegally stored sand will be seized and the vehicles used for transporting sand without permit will also be seized.
