This is AFB’s second chapter in Karnataka. The first is in Mysore and the third will be launched in Mangalore on Tuesday. Alliance Francaise, with 22 Centres across the country, is now spreading its wings with the establishment of Chapters of these Centres.

“Manipal University and the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore have already been working together for the last five years,” said Manipal University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Vinodh Bhat. CampFrance (a French agency for the promotion of higher education in France) initiated collaborations between MU and French universities. AFB will be housed in the newly started Manipal Centre for European Studies, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Cooperation and cultural counsellor, Embassy of France in India Phillipe Martinet said “AFB will help people of the two countries to come closer, get to know the richness of each others culture better.” Manipal University is also signing MoUs with French universities like Aix-en-Provence, Lyon 2, Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA),  Paris 3 (Sorbonne) soon. The Manipal chapter of the AFB will offer services such as French language classes, information on higher education and employment opportunities in France, translation services, and will also organise cultural programmes. Through CampusFrance, students will be offered scholarships as well.
