Steel sector freed from import curbs

Import of certain articles of iron and steel used in steering or rudder equipment for ships and boats has been freed, said a notification from the Foreign Trade Office.

These were the only few items which were under restrictive import category requiring licence. Import bill of such items was $227 million during April-December 2009, while total iron and steel imports were $2.12 billion.
