Academy to distribute funds for Yakshagana programmes

He was addressing after inaugurating ‘Yakshagana Parva’ programme organised by the Thadambail Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhatta Vishwastha Mandali in association with Yakshagana and Lalithakala Adhyayana Kendra, Bangalore, Yakshagana Academy and Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai Yakshagana Adhyayana Kendra at Govindadas College in Surathkal near Mangalore on Friday.

Rao said that the government is preparing to conduct Yakshagana examinations with an objective to promote the art form.

“Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhatta was an ace Yakshagana artiste, who himself was identified as a synonym to the Yakshagana art,” he said.

Rao called upon Yakshagana artistes to approach the Kannada and Culture Department to avail financial aid.

Sri Rajashekharananda Swamy of Gurupura Vajradehi mutt said that Yakshagana artistes should not give up the aft form even if they do not get sufficient encouragement. Artistes should strive to preserve the art by making Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhatta a model, he added.
State Kannada Sahitya Parishat former President Harikrishna Punarooru presided. Surathkal Hindu Vidyadayini Sangha President Prof H Giridhara Hatwar, Artistes Puttur Bhaskara Barya, Samethadka Gopalakrishna Bhat, Vasudeva Rangabhat, P V Rao, Vadiraja Kalluraya, Subraya Bhat Shirasi and Krishnamoorthi were present on the occasion.
