HC relaxes bail terms for godman, Halappa

Last Updated 09 July 2010, 19:05 IST

Nithyananda, who faces charges of rape and financial irregularities, was granted bail on June 11 subject to certain conditions. The HC has now permitted him to  preach at his Ashram. The court, however, turned down his appeal that police come to Ashram rather than he presenting himself at the police station. But, he now will have to report at the Bidadi police station once a month as against the earlier condition of once every 15 days.
Nithyananda will not be allowed to travel outside the Ashram without the prior permission of local magistrate.

Justice Subhash B Adi, who also heard Halappa’s application for relaxation of bail conditions, allowed him to travel outside Shimoga and even attend the Legislature sessions if he so chooses. He will, however, have to report to the CoD once a month.
