A team of nearly 40 police personnel, including the DCP Revanna, ACP Chandrappa, four inspectors and 30 constables acting on a tip-off raided Hotel Ujawala International in Peenya.

The police have arrested altogether 72 people, with three absconding. The three absconding people are Makali Ravi, owner of Hotel Ujawala International, Managers Shivkumar and Umesh. The raid caught the unsuspecting middle and lower middle class people in the midst of their game. Police officials state that most gamblers who were arrested were small time chit fund managers and who did some clerical jobs.

Having received a series of tip-offs over the past few months, the police finally decided to setup a trap on Thursday midnight and caught the culprits involved in the racket red-handed.

Police officials state that the Hotel, which was poorly maintained, had a history of some nefarious activity four years ago. Among the valuables seized include 45 mobile phones worth Rupees three lakh, and other valuables worth 21.3 lakh.
