A sub-inspector attached to the Cubbon Park Traffic was at the receiving end of his superiors’ wrath for being dutiful and enforcing the law against drunken drivers without fear or favour.

On duty in the wee hours of Monday, the sub-inspector stopped a high-end model car in routine checks to enforce the law against drunken driving. He found that Anil Kumar, the driver of the vehicle, had consumed more alcohol - 88 points – than the permissible limit of 30 points.

The moment the cop proceeded to book the case, Kumar sought to wriggle out of the situation by dropping names. He started dialing numbers from his mobile. He even forced the cop to talk to some “VIP” on the other side. When the sub-inspector didn't yield to his tantrums, Kumar claimed that he was related to the Dasarahalli MLA.

According to sources, the sub-inspector went ahead and punched the vehicle number in his BlackBerry, took out the printed bill and presented it to the driver. The case was booked. The cop insisted on the rule and asked Kumar to leave the vehicle and make alternative arrangement to reach his destination. Kumar and friends traveling with him eventually left the spot.

In the morning, Kumar completed necessary formalities at the Police Station and got his vehicle released.

For the sub-inspector, however, the matter did not end there. The sources said, the sub-inspector was pulled up — not by his immediate boss but by an Assistant Commissioner of Police from a neighbouring division. Further, the sub-inspector was apparently summoned by his higher-ups and was taken to task for doing his job!
