On Tuesday, the State government has recommended Justice S B Majjige’s name to governor H R Bhardwaj for the post of Upa Lokayukta. Presently, Majjige is serving as vice-president, Karnataka Administrative Tribunal .
Majjige will be replacing Patri Basanagouda who retired on December 28, 2009. The Upa Lokayukta post had fallen vacant since then to the chagrin of Lokayukta Santosh Hegde. Majjige has served in different capacities in legal profession. He was principal sessions judge in Bangalore rural, Mandya, Mysore district sessions courts. He was elevated as High Court registrar general and later he went on to become the HC judge. After his retirement, from 2005 onwards, he is serving as the vice-president, Karnataka Administrative Tribunal.
