Chavan meets Sonia, says Naidu's march unnecessary

Last Updated 17 July 2010, 09:19 IST

"Naidu's actions are political as assembly by-elections have been declared in the neighbouring state (Andhra Pradesh)," Chavan told reporters after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi here.

"Naidu's Nanded march was unnecessary," Chavan said and accused the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister of creating a law and order problem in the area.
Naidu led 75 TDP leaders, including MPs, state legislators and former ministers, to the site and spent Friday night at the Dharmabad Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and refused to leave Maharashtra till they were allowed to inspect the Babli dam on the Godavari river. They were subsequently taken into police custody.

They continued to remain in custody Saturday in Nanded district.
Naidu has alleged that Maharashtra was building the project ignoring the directions of the Supreme Court and the Central Water Commission.
