The deceased Roopa (35) was a divorcee with two children. She was running Amit Clinic near her apartment and hailed from Chennapatna, said the police. Roopa was residing in flat number 315 on fifth floor. Some neighbours noticed the body lying on the floor at around 8 am and alerted the police. Though the police suspect it to be a suicide, they are also probing into the possibilities of murder.

Takes to sedatives

According to the complaint lodged by Raju, the brother of Roopa, the latter was married to Lokesh 11 years ago and they had two children. They were staying in a rented house in HVR Layout. Roopa came into contact with Arun Kumar a few years ago and both fell in love. The latter instigated Roopa to seek divorce from Lokesh, who after coming to know of her affairs, gave his consent. But things went awry as Arun backtracked. Upset over turn of events, Roopa took to sedatives.  Nearly eight months ago, Arun took a flat on rent and started living with Roopa. He signed as Roopa’s husband in the rent agreement. Roopa’s children were staying with their grandparents.

“Arun Kumar harassed my sister after she started demanding him to marry her. She had informed us about it. We requested him not to harm Roopa, but he neglected our pleas. My sister started taking medicines, including injecting herself to come out of mental agony,” Raju has said in his complaint.

Verbal dual

On Sunday afternoon, Roopa picked up quarrel with Arun and even went to the police station. She complained against him but not in writing. Sources said Roopa appeared out of senses and even threw stones at Arun Kumar’s car. The police pacified and sent her home.

A few residents couldn’t believe that Roopa committed suicide. They justified their suspicion saying that there were no blood stains on or near the body and it appeared as if Roopa was fast asleep. The police, however, said a post mortem will reveal the truth. A manhunt has been launched to trace Arun Kumar.
