Water levels in major rivers rising

An official release said, water levels in major rivers Krishna, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Doodhganga, Vedganga and Markendeya have begun to rise and a list of villages on the banks of these rivers prone to floods, as per previous records, has been prepared and precautionary measures have been taken.

A special unit has been established in the office of Superintendent of Police for monitoring flood situation. Police personnel have been deputed at villages from Chikodi, Gokak, Hukkeri and Khanapur taluks to inform the people about the water levels in the rivers. Officials have been deputed to maintain contact with the officials from Maharashtra to gather information about release of water in river Krishna from Koyna Dam.
