Vaishnavi wins Abacus championship

She is the first from Dakshina Kannada to win this championship. The prize was awarded in Chennai by Counsel General of Malaysia.

Speaking to presspersons, she said “abacus has helped me in enhancing my learning abilities, increase the speed and also in grasping power.”  “I worked hard for this competition. Moreover, I was confident,” she added.

The competition was conducted by UCMAS. She is the past state champion and a national level runner up. Enamoured by her excellent performance, UCMAS India has awarded sponsorship for her participation at the international level competitions to be held in Malaysia in November. In fact, she had scored highest marks, said her teacher of Fast Arithmetic K Vinayak Prabhu. She has been learning under him for the last four years.

She is the daughter of Justice K S Hegde Medical Academy Department of Surgery HoD Dr Rajesh Ballal and an artist Vasundhara and also the grand daughter of Dr C R Ballal.
Her other interests include Bharathnatyam. Carnatic music, skating and painting are her other hobbies.
