Rewards for excellence

ENTERTAINING EVENING
Last Updated 29 July 2010, 14:45 IST

The function was organised by iCMG, a Bangalore-based architecture firm. Six Indian companies were among the 21 companies, who walked away with awards of excellence.

TATA Motors bagged the ‘Best IT Service Management’, Evolvus India bagged the award in the ‘Startup’ category, Aircel and MTS shared the award in ‘Growing Business In New Territory or New Service Offering’, Reliance Life Insurance and ITC Infotech shared the best ‘Business Process Management’ award while Reliance Globalcom walked away with the ‘IT Landscape Rationalisation’ award.

The ‘iCMG Hall of Fame award’ was shared by Thomas Mobray, an internationally-recognised author of five books (related to Distributed Computing & Enterprise Architecture) including the international bestseller ‘Software Architecture Bootcamp’, and Rajeev Batra, CIO of MTS India-Telecom Services brand of Sistema, that operates in eight countries and has more than 100 million subscribers worldwide.

“The idea behind ‘Architecture Excellence Awards’ is to honour architects and enterprises, whose work demonstrates a combination of talent, vision and workmanship, creating successful and enduring systems and enterprises,” apprised Sunil Dutt Jha, Chief Architect and CEO, iCMG.

“Though this was the first year the awards have been instituted, we received more than 100 entries from across the world and finally 23 emerged as winners across categories,” said Jha.

Speaking on the occasion, the global guru and father of Enterprise Architecture, John Zachman said, “Though the idea of enterprise architecture was seeded nearly 30 years back, only recently we found that there is a growing acceptance and demand for this discipline. The Architecture Excellence Awards is a great stride forward for enterprise architects with iCMG bringing international recognition for their valuable contribution to business performance.”

“We have also instituted the ‘Zachman Award for Enterprise Architecture’ which will be awarded every year along with other architecture awards. However, this year we felt no company met the benchmark set for the award hence, there are no winners in the category. Both iCMG and Zachman International will work closely to ensure that award is managed and delivered with equanimity. Hopefully, with time it should become the Oscar for the Enterprise Architects,” added Zachman. The jury for the awards consisted of working professionals in the industry, all of whom have years of experience in managing complex IT systems and enterprises. The awards were interspersed with a spectacular Russian dance performance and a thematic fashion show.
