Speaking to press persons here on Friday, DSS State Convenor Rohithaksha K said that the state government has not taken any initiative so far for the welfare and uplift of Dalits. “The recent incident of Bhangi community members carrying human excreta shows the condition of Dalits in the State,” he said.
Having all these grievances, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has decided to stage a protest right in front of the Cheif Minister’s residence in Bangalore urging him to fulfil long pending demands, he said.
Meanwhile, Rohithaksha also informed about the demands put forth by the committee, which includes rehabilitation works for community members, legal steps to stop the attacks on Dalits, proper distribution of funds to backward community members working in municipal corporations among others. More than 1,000 Dalits from the district are expected to join the protest, he added.
Dakshina Kannada District Convenor S P Ananda, Sanjeeva R, Jagadeesh Pandeshwar and other office bearers were present.
